Singapore, December 1 2009 – CyanSYS, together with Microsoft and Singapore Polytechnic, today announced the availability of the Microsoft Dynamics Business Management Solutions (BMS) electives to students attending the School of Digital Media and Infocomm Technology. The aim of the partnership is to give students a strong foundation in IT skills, build broad business capabilities and provide hands-on training in real-world enterprise business processes using Microsoft Dynamics NAV, a leading enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution for businesses.

In-line with the Singapore government’s push to build a skilled workforce with the required infocomm expertise, the Microsoft Dynamics BMS module will be offered as a free elective to students enrolled in three Singapore Polytechnic diploma courses – Diploma in Information Technology, Diploma in Infocomm Security Management and Diploma in Business Information Technology. Microsoft Dynamics NAV will also be applied in two other modules under the Diploma in Information Technology (Enterprise Systems Option) – Accounting Information Systems (AIS) and Enterprise Business Processes (EBP).

Dynamics BMS module, we aim to help these students develop both technology as well as business domain knowledge, so that they are prepared for the demands of the industry. This will ultimately lead to locally developed technologies in the future.”

A recent IDC study commissioned by Microsoft states that IT spending will grow by 1.9% a year, from 2008 to the end of 2013, to S$9.85 billion. Based on these projections, employment in the IT industry and of IT professionals will rise by 17,000 jobs in these four years, up from a 2009 base of 144,000. That represents growth of 2.3% a year, which is more than five times faster than the growth of total employment. The study also shows that for every dollar of revenue that Microsoft makes in Singapore, Microsoft’s partner ecosystem makes S$8.13, which contributes to new projects, jobs and infrastructure investments in Singapore.

“Microsoft has had a long history of working with our industry, education partners and the government to support IT training in schools and tertiary institutions. With this partnership, Microsoft is aligning its commitment to education with real market demand for qualified IT professionals in Singapore,” said Jessica Tan, Managing Director, Microsoft Singapore. By focusing on providing new and relevant software capabilities to facilitate real-world training, we are contributing to the building of a robust local talent pool and software ecosystem.”
